SHEFFIELD, 1920 AND 1926, MAKER'S MARK GH
Tapering handles with reed panels of silver-gilt with mother-of-pearl between, the forks marked near ferrule, the knives marked on the blades, the ferrules also marked, with a card printed 'Windsor Castle' below the Royal arms, inscribed by Queen Mary 'For darling Margaret from her loving Grannie Mary April 15th 1946', all in fitted wood case, the cover with shaped oval plaque engraved with initial 'M' with Royal Princess' coronet above
The initial is that of H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.

Given to H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon on the occasion of her confirmation by her grandmother H.M. Queen Mary (1867-1953).

Lot Essay

Princess Margaret was confirmed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, assisted by the Dean of Windsor, in a private ceremony in the chapel of Windsor Castle. The King and Queen, The Princess Elizabeth, The Duchess of Kent and the Hon. David Bowes Lyon attended together with members of the household.
