An Irish oak Linen Chest
Presented to Queen Mary by the Women of Belfast on her engagement to Prince George, Duke of York, 1891
The hinged top carved with a quartefoil with a rose below a crown flanked by the initials 'M' and 'Y', the front, sides and back carved with panels of shamrocks and inscribed 'TO PRINCESS VICTORIA MARY OF TECK ON HER MARRIAGE WITH HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE GEORGE FREDK. ERNEST ALBERT DUKE OF YORK WITH BEST GOOD WISHES FOR HER HAPPINESS THE WOMEN OF BELFAST THE CHIEF CITY IN ULSTER SEND THIS CHEST OF LINEN OF LOCAL MANUFACTURE', inscribed to the underside '107 Room W.F.', with a later paper property label for Princess Margaret
