The plain bowl on a pedestal foot with a knopped stem, engraved with a coat-of-arms on one side and a depiction of a Church on the other, each side further engraved with an inscription, marked on side
TOGETHER WITH:
A Turkish silver beaker, waisted cylindrical and engraved with foliage, marked on side
the goblet 4¾ in. (12 cm.) high
5 oz. (145 gr.)
The inscription reads 'PRESENTED TO HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCESS MARGARET COUNTESS OF SNOWDON ON THE OCCASION OF HER ATTENDANCE AT A CIVIC SERVICE AT TAMWORTH 2ND JULY 1975.'

The second inscription reads 'THE COLLEGIATE AND PARISH CHURCH OF ST EDITHA, TAMWORTH.'

The arms are those of the Borough of Tamworth. (2)

Lot Essay

Princess Margaret flew to Staffordshire on the 2 July 1975 to attend a reception given by the mayor of Tamworth. As recorded by the inscription she also attended a service at St. Editha's Church. The day's appointments further included the opening of the new Tamworth Police Station and a lunch given by the chairman of Staffordshire County Council and Cannock Chase District Council, which was held at Hagley Park School, Rugeley.
