Lot Essay

The presentation of the model was made on the second day of Princess Margaret's two day tour in Northern Ireland in 1984. On the first day of the tour she visited the Girl Guide Training Centre outside Belfast where 1,500 assembled Girl Guides and Brownies performed for her. She spent an hour walking amongst their displays and talking to the girls.
On the second day of the tour the Princess visited Short Brothers, in Belfast, to present them with the Queen's Award for Export. The presentation was made in front of 1,000 of the companies employees. After the presentation Princess Margaret was given the statuette of a British soldier firing a Javelin, one of Short's products.
