with copper concave section wire frame (lens edge chipped), in fabric lined wooden case, with copperised brass hinge and clip, the case with crescent-shaped brass scale, with incised numerals 12 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 and 12 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 , and drilled holes (case worn) -- 5in. (12.7cm.) long

The brass scale and holes on the case cover would suggest a sundial, possibly added by the owner.
