Lot Essay

The miniature Louis XV dressing-table (table de toilette, coiffeuse, poudreuse) is japanned in the 'Vernis Martin' fashion popularised by Parisian marchand-merciers such as Lazare Duvaux, while its Chinese figures reflect the 'Goût Chinois' popularised by the artist Jean Pillement (d.1808).
