Lot Essay

This occasional table is designed in the Regency 'Louis Quatorze' fashion popularised by the emigré craftsman Louis Constantin Le Gaigneur, who worked extensively for King George IV. A closely related example, undoubtedly executed in the same as yet unidentified workshop and signed 'A. Eayrs', was sold from the collection of Mrs. Nellie Ionides (d.1962), Christie's London, 16 September 2004, lot 163.
