In her recent monograph on Regnault, Laurie Dahlberg notes: 'Regnault made most of his landscapes around farms and open country, but he also made some pictures in the imperial Parc de Saint Cloud...[here] Regnault could count on three things he most often sought in landscapes: the open view to the horizon (which allowed him to exploit atmospheric perspective), the plunging recession of space, and great wedges of sky.'
