Lot Essay

Identical 'Egyptian' lion finials were fitted on a soup tureen by Bennewitz (1820) with a stand by Stellingwerff (1816) and on four covered entree dishes, by Stellingwerff (1822), all belonging to the service made for Cornelis Reinhard Vaillant (1822). The two applied mask and ivory handles are almost identical to the ones on the tureen by Bennewitz made in 1824 which is part of the extensive service made for the Jonkheer Willem van Loon.
