Francis Etienne Montanier (1895-1974) studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon and then in Paris where he took over the workshop of André Derain and befriended Georges Braque. He outgrew figurative art after the Second World War. He mostly painted in Normandy and Provence (France). After he died, the city of Le Havre set up an important exhibition devoted to him.

Francis-Etienne Montanier (1895-1974) étudie à l'école des Beaux Arts de Lyon puis aux Beaux Arts à Paris. Il reprend l'atelier d'André Derain en 1937 et devient l'ami de Georges Braque. Il abandonne la peinture figurative après la guerre et peint essentiellement en Provence et en Normandie. A sa mort, le musée du Havre lui consacre une importante rétrospective
