Small 8vo., 34p. + advertisement leaf, wood-engraved frontispiece, text figures and diagrams (a few spots and soil marks), original brown limp cloth, front cover stamped in gilt with title lettering and figure of a batsman blocking the ball (edges frayed, dent in front cover).
Second edition. The first was published the year before as A Manual of Cricket and Baseball. The second edition was restricted to cricket, "base-ball being treated in another book of the same size and style, under the title of the Base-ball Player's Pocket Companion", additions to both having made it "impossible to bring them into one book of a size and price to meet the wants of all lovers of these now very fashionable sports" (see the "Announcement" on p. 4).
