FREDERICK JAMES IRONSIDE
Ironside's Australian Cricketing Handbook, embracing the doings in Australia of the Intercolonial and All-England Teams

Sydney: Jarrett and Co., [1880]. 8vo., pagination: [iv], 78, [2], [v]p; 2p. advertisements, [1]p. blank, title with woodcut vignette, modern green buckram, original blue printed front wrapper bound in.

"New and revised edition", including chapters on "Intercolonial matches", "All-England Elevens", "Aboriginal Cricketers", and the first and second representative Australian teams: "Gregory's Australian Eleven" with a record of its "performances in England, Scotland, America, and the Colonies", and "Boyle's Australian Eleven". Ironside wrote of the quiet departure of the first team: "Beyond a few immediate well-wishers one evening in March, '78, at Punch's Hotel, but comparatively little interest appeared to be taken in their antipodean adventure, and the 'City of Sydney's' departure on the 29th March was about as common-place as usual. Their Leaving indeed stood out in bold contrast with their arrival, when in the latter case enthusiastic thousands assembled and paid honour to their well-earned laurels" (p. 53). Padwick 3339.
