JAMES PHILLIPS
The Tenth Australian Cricket Team
[London]: printed for the author, [1899]. 8vo., 15 half-tone portraits, green buckram, preserving original green printed front wrapper.
Pre-tour penny booklet. With a note by umpire Jim Phillips on "Unfair Bowling" at the end. Both teams were so strong that the three day Test matches proved almost impossible to finish. The Australians, led by Darling, had most of their players from the previous series, also Victor Trumper making his tour debut. England had Jackson, MacLaren, "Ranji", Fry and Hayward, all in their prime. Only one match, the second at Lord's, brought a definite result, Australia playing superb cricket to win by ten wickets. Padwick 4992.
