Port Elizabeth: Impey Walton, [1888]. 4°, pagination: [18]p. preliminaries (most advertisements), 107, [1]p., with 19 advertisement leaves interspersed in text, 13 on yellow or white and 8 on pink paper, mounted frontispiece photograph of "The English Cricketers", bust portraits in text (some spotting, occasional heavy browning and short marginal tears), original wrappers, lithographic front wrapper by Weinthal and Berry with central portrait, red edges (neatly rebacked in paper), protective cloth case.

PRE-TOUR ACCOUNT OF GREAT RARITY. Although "the honour of having conceived the idea and successfully carried through the scheme of bringing an English team of cricketers to South Africa" belonged to Major R. Gardner Warton, the team was actually captained by Aubrey Smith who is pictured on the front cover (see illustration opposite). Padwick 4620.
