Port Elizabeth: Charles Cox, 23 December 1884-2 January 1885. 9 issues in one vol., 4to., 5 mounted photographs, each issue between 4 and 6 pages with repeated woodcut cricket vignette at head, no. 8 with first leaf duplicated, additional leaf bound in at front stating "Regulations concerning the possession of the Champion Bat of South Africa" (some spotting, some fading of images), original black half roan and brown cloth, upper cover titled in gilt (slightly bowed). Provenance: Gideon Nieman (bookplate).
EXTREMELY RARE. The Chronicle was issued daily, and then subsequently as a bound volume forming a record of the Christmas tournament held at Port Elizabeth between Port Elizabeth (the winners), Cape Town, King William's Town and Kimberley. Padwick 3629.
