Christie's charge a premium to the buyer on the fi… Read more The following lots (Lots 644-646) are from the estate of author Ethel Portnoy (1927-2004). Portnoy was born in the Bronx, New York, from a Russian-jewish family. She moved to Europe in the 1950s where she met Vijftigers Simon Vinkenoog and Rudy Kousbroek. After working for the UNESCO she devoted all her time to writing from 1962. Her famous volume of stories Broodje Aap was published in 1978. Part of Portnoy's collection of 20th Century jewellery designs was exhibited at Kunstnijverheid in de jaren twintig, an exhibition under the supervision of Prof. Dr. H.L.C. Jaffé at the Institute of Art History of the University of Amsterdam from 27 October to 17 November 1972.
