Lot Essay

This desk was part of the furniture of the officers and non commissioned officers' bedrooms in the Sanatorium Martel de Janville, Plateau d'Assy (Haute-Savoie). It was built on the initiative of the Countess Martel de Janville who donated an important amount of money to the War Ministery in memory of her son. The architects were Pol Abraham and Jacques Henri Le Même and Jules Leleu the decorator, who collaborated with Jean Prouvé for some of the furniture.

A similar desk and desk chair were sold at Christie's Paris on 1 December 2005, lots 201 and 202.
