The general cargo steamer Thornaby was built for Tyne-Tees Shipping by Hawthorn, Leslie & Co. at Newcastle in 1935. Registered at 1,174 tons gross (504 net), she measured 226½ feet in length with a 33 foot beam and was engined by the North East Marine Engine Co. of Sunderland. Although she survived the Second World War, she disappears from record by 1950, presumably sold and renamed.
