Lot Essay

The arms are those of the family Horsemonden. David Howard suggest the service was probably ordered by John Horsemonden who was second member of the Council at Canton in 1721, for his cousin Daniel Horsemonden (1691-1778) who emigrated to America. See D.S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p. 176, B1.
