A similar commode was sold Christie's New York, 21 October 1997, lot 24. Two further related commodes, possibly from the same workshop, were sold Versailles, 21 February 1982, lot 74, and Versailles, 28 February 1988, lot 258.

While the shape and overall design of this commode is traditional, the veneers are more exotic and varied than most other pieces of this date. The distinctive veneer of this commode is further emphasized by some of the amaranth veneers, which are also probably stained to resemble a more exotic wood.
