Of Louis XVI style, each with a bleu turquin demi-lune marble top above an egg-and-dart-carved frieze and on scrolled acathus carved legs flanking two entwined serpents joined by a stretcher and on hoof feet and a further base, one with paper label inscribed 'Seligman' and both marbles and one console with customs stamps, the tops associated

Lot Essay

With their entwined serpent supports, these delicately-carved consoles relate to an 18th century pair of consoles almost certainly supplied to the fermier général Randon de Boisset (d. 1776), also with twisted serpent legs, the design attributed to Antoine-Mathieu Le Carpentier, which sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 14 March 1996, lot 170.
