The original model for this table is attributed to Weisweiler and Thomire and was delivered by Rocheux to the Palace of Fontainebleau in 1810 (see J. P. Samoyault, Meubles entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 2004, p. 248, no. 176).

In the later 19th century it was copied extensively. François Linke first bought a slightly earlier and nearly identical table made by Millet, at the Millet sale, 7-9 June, 1905, lot 655 (see D. Ledoux-Lebard, p. 484). In his archives is preserved a watercolor design for the table, no. 1390. Linke's first version was made in 1907 with a porcelain vase on the stretcher, simulating porphyry, the others all have blue porcelain, like the present example, supplied by the Parisian manufacturer Samson. Linke's versions of these tables are all veneered in yew or with marble tops and were either 100 cm. or 90 cm. in diameter (see C. Payne, p. 208).

Another example of the present model by Linke, but with an tazza on the stretcher instead of the vase, was sold Christie's London, 16 June 1994, lot 184. A lower version, veneered in amboyna like the present example, was sold Sotheby's London, 27 May 1994, lot 201.
