The shaping on the crests of these chairs relates closely to a group of chairs made in Newtown, Connecticut and illustrated in Edward S. Cooke, Jr., Fiddlebacks and Crooked-backs: Elijah Booth and Other Joiners in Newtown and Woodbury 1750-1820 (Waterbury, 1982), figs. 3-4.
