A COMPOSITE SPANISH CUP-HILT RAPIER
Second half of the 17th Century
With slender two-stage blade stamped with a series of letters and decorative marks within the fuller on both sides at the forte, rectangular ricasso, cup-guard decorated with chiselled fluted flanged rim and two bands of pierced chiselled scrolling flowers (holed at the base), iron quillons and knuckle-guard decorated with panels of spiral fluting and with plain button terminals, plain globular pommel, and fabric-covered grip (probably over patterned wire), in later iron-mounted scabbard.
