AN UNUSUAL FRENCH 16-BORE D.B. SPORTING GUN INCORPORATING LOCKS FINELY CONSTRUCTED IN THE NEAPOLITAN TASTE
Early 19th Century
With sighted twist barrels inscribed 'Cannon à Ruban' and 'Fer de Faux Damassé' in large silver script, plain case-hardened breeches, platinum-lined vents, plain case-hardened breech tang, plain case-hardened locks with bevelled edges and platinum-lined pans, figured walnut half-stock finely carved with a fluted pelta moulding in low relief about the breech tang and with a ram's head (aegricanes) in high relief at the base of the grip, plain case-hardened steel mounts of shaped outline, including butt-plate with trap housing the original socket-bayonet, gold escutcheon, original ivory-tipped ramrod, and some original finish.
