A RARE GERMAN THREE-SHOT FLINTLOCK TURN-OFF SPORTING CARBINE
Early 18th Century
With 36cm sighted turn-off barrel, the rear section formed in three stages with turned girdles and fitted with back-sight, hand-rotated chambers engraved at the base, numbered 1-3 and released by a catch in front of the trigger-guard (now a loose fit), engraved action face and tang, plain rounded lock, short rounded wooden butt carved with scrolls in relief about the action tang, inlaid with a star in black and white horn on the left and the base with patch-box with plain sliding cover, chiselled iron side-plate formed as a serpent, and plain iron trigger-guard.
