A VERY RARE PAIR OF AIR PISTOLS BY EGG, LONDON
Late 18th Century
With slender sighted two-stage barrels with steel-lined brass sleeves, one multigroove rifled, the other rifled with seven grooves, octagonal breeches inscribed 'London' on a gold oval, gold line, engraved tangs incorporating the back-sight, bevelled locks signed 'Egg' on a gold oval and engraved with a trophy-of-arms on the tail (cocking-levers not a pair), and copper reservoir on a threaded valve below, figured walnut full stocks, chequered butts, steel mounts including trigger-guards engraved with a trophy en suite with the barrel tangs and the locks, the reservoir apertures engraved with a band of leaves, set triggers, two vacant silver escutcheons, a further two pairs of silver escutcheons for the barrel-bolts, and original ramrods (the barrels and mounts lightly pitted), together with brass-mounted browned steel pump and spare reservoir.
