A NUREMBERG ALL-STEEL WHEEL-LOCK SMALL PISTOL
circa 1585-90
With two-stage barrel swamped at the muzzle and struck with Nuremberg mark, flat lock also struck with Nuremberg mark and with maker's mark 'HR', a sun beneath (Neue Støckel 3064), decorated over its full surface with etched panels of differing scrollwork on a granular ground, with etched open-domed wheel-cover, sliding pan-cover with button release, safety-catch (replaced) and the dog pierced and engraved with a monster and a human mask, plain full stock, 'fishtail' pommel of strongly accentuated form, moulded trigger-guard, and later ramrod with baluster tip.
