Lot Essay

The stock compares particularly closely with those of a pair of wheel-lock pistols made by Hans Stockmann for Christian II, Prince Elector of Saxony in 1603; see Dieter Schaal,Katalog Dresdener Büchsenmacher 16-18. JH., Dresden, 1975, cat.nos.125-126.

The distinctive inlaid decoration compares also with a pair of snaphaunce pistols by Stockmann, circa 1620; op. cit., cat.nos. 237-238.
