A RARE FRENCH CONSULAR PERIOD REGULATION SABRE FOR THE MAMELOUK LIGHT CAVALRY SQUADRON OF THE GARDE IMPÉRIALE, THE ARMS MANUFACTORY, VERSAILLES
Marked for 1802
With curved blade double-edged towards the point, struck with Versailles inspector's mark of Levasseur (1798-1803) and Klingenthal controller's mark of Mouton (1798-1804) on one side and inscribed 'Mfture de Klingenthal Coulaux Frères Entreprs' along the back edge, regulation hilt stamped '14', original leather-covered grip bound with brass wire, and in its original scabbard, the chape struck with the mark of Jean Cazamajou, réviseur à Versailles' (the leading edge split along the seam).
