Each of tapering form, covered in black-lavender mottled glaze on the exterior, with a biscuit-ground cameo decorated with an equestrian figure, incised Shiy Ke ("engraved by Shiy") -- maximum 5 5/8 in. (14.2 cm.) high. (2)

Lot Essay

The decoration on lots 219-221 inclusive were inspired by Han tomb paintings and appear on a book-cover designed by Shiy De Jinn for an unpublished manuscript by Mr. Andrew Franklin titled Envoys to China.
