Original photo-illustrated wrappers (light wear at extremities, minor soiling, joints expertly repaired). Provenance: Emiel van Moerkerken (1916-1995; bookplate, designed by Chris van Geel; pencilled signature dated August 1938).
FIRST EDITION. RARE: a number of copies are said to have perished in a warehouse fire during the London blitz. The Surrealist photographer and author Emiel van Moerken's copy. The Open Book, pp.126-27 (illustrating the French issue); The Photobook, p.138 ('superior in both conception and execution [to The English at Home] ... the night brought out Brandt's predilection for the mysterious and the fantastic').
