Publisher's black cloth, spine and front cover blocked in white, publisher's black cloth slipcase with a photograph tipped on one side, in the original shipping carton with printed paper label on one side (spine with light even sunning, light wear to slipcase). Provenance: Camera magazine file copy (small stamp dated '27.2.73').
FIRST EDITION, IN THE ORIGINAL SHIPPING CARTON. 'ONE OF THE PHOTOBOOKS MOST SOUGHT BY COLLECTORS. Indeed, it approaches the level of The Americans, both as a book and as a fitting memorial for a great photographic figure' (The Photobook). Issued in two variants with a different image affixed to the slipcase, this one apparently less common, with 'Platte River, Tennessee c.1956'. 101 Books, pp. 286-87; The Photobook, pp.237-8, 261 ('FRANK'S GREAT CONFESSIONAL BOTH SUMS UP AND MARKS THE END...
