COMPARATIVE LITERATURE: R. Antonetto, 'Minusieri ed Ebanisti del Piemonte, Chieri, 1985, cat. 246, p. 180.

Although the charming lacca povera ornament of the tray-top of this richly carved table would often suggest a Venetian origin, this example in fact belongs to a rare group of similar pieces executed in Piedmont. The high-hiped profile of the legs is in particular a distinctive feature of Piedmontese carvers.

Similar Piedmontese tables are illustrated in V. Viale, Mostra del Barocco Piemontese, exh. cat., Vol. III, Turin, 1963, pls. 86, 87 and 89a, and a further related table is illustrated in E. Quaglino, Il Mobile Piemontese, Milan, 1966, pp. 118.
