Lot Essay

The Parisian bronzier and fondeur Henri Vian is recorded as having specialized in the production of bronze-mounted chimney-pieces, light fittings and decorative vases. The business, located at 5, rue de la Thorigny, was continued by Madame Vian on her husband's death in 1905. Vian produced articles of the highest quality, so much so that the style of his casting and gilding has often been mistaken for earlier work.
