Le Corbusier used this exterior light fixture in various sizes in several of his projects, including the park of the Cité Radieuse, Marseille (1946-52), the Villa Sarabhai, Ahmedabad (1955), and the Shukna Lake promenade, Chandigarh (1955). The light fixture offered here originates from the front courtyard of the Palais de Filateurs in Ahmedabad, capital of the state of Gujarat. The Palais was constructed in 1954 on the commission of the Millowner's Association, and is one of four buildings erected by Le Corbusier in Ahmedabad.
