This work by Maqbool Fida Husain, entitled Sabeel, illustrates the distribution of free water or buttermilk to the needy as a gesture of goodwill during the summer months. In some Shia traditions, these refreshment stands are set up during the Islamic month of Muharram to mark the anniversary of the battle of Karbala (in present day Iraq) of the martyrdom of the Prophets grandson, Husain. This battle took place on 10 Muharram, 61 AH (10 October 680 CE).
