Lot Essay

Harumi Klossowski de Rola was born in 1973 as the daughter of Count Balthazar who is better known as the artist Balthus, and the highly respected Japanese painter Setsuko Ideta. Spending her early childhood in Rome, she moved with her family to the Grand Chalet in the tiny Swiss village of Rossiniere near Gstaad. In 1995, after working for Galliano in Paris, Harumi turned to jewellery design and together with her friend Charuvan Sursock-Rangsit, Princess of Thailand, has become one of the fastest rising jewellery designers in Europe.

Their Asian-inspired earrings and necklaces were first shown in Geneva in November 1996, where they sold out. The coloured silk threads combined with gemstones gives an ethnic allure to their creations.
