Lot Essay

The design of this bracelet derives from the traditional Indian bazuband armlets: a flexible elongated oval of precious stone collets or plain silver units was framed by a series of loops through which a cord is threaded and tied to the upper arm. According to Hans Nadelhoffer, the bazuband 'inspired a Cartier bracelet in which a textile-patterned central section of diamonds was secured by a black silk cord.'
