Lot Essay

During the restoration carried out by Mr. Stonehill, it was found that due to careless design, it could not have originally worked as intended. This did not stop the instrument from working however, but this fault was rectified and the instrument now plays correctly. During this restoration, the hammers were replaced with genuine Steinway (USA) hammers.
The crash-valve feature was added by Gordon Iles.
