BRUNO CLAIR

The legendary Clair-Daü estate came about through the union of Joseph Clair and Marguerite Daü immediately following WWI. With dissolution of the Clair-Daü estate in the early '80s, Bruno Clair has emerged with more than half of the original estate, adding plots in Corton-Charlemagne, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton in 1993 as well as Gevrey Chambertin La Petite Chapelle in 1996. In close conjunction with his winemaker Phillipe Brun, the wines are made in an increasingly traditional manner erring on the side of elegance. Flexible winemaking style and a firm understanding of terroir allow the grapes to express themselves and the wine making team to be sensitive to the strengths and weaknesses of each vintage. Treating each vine individually and limited amounts of new oak are tangible examples of this strategy. His Beze hails from a plot were two-thirds of the vines were planted in 1912 and is a finely delineated, dense wine with some spiciness and outstanding persistence. The Savigny La Dominode is a true star of an unfortunately often overlooked appellation with deep dark fruit complexity and intensity emanating from vines over a hundred years old. From Vosne, the Perdrix upholds the house's elegant with subtle red fruits and dusty tannins and is grown from sixty year old vines.

Côte de Nuits, B. Clair
In original carton
"Terrifically expressive fruit and quite precise in the mouth with excellent sève, finely extracted tannins and a powerful finishing rush of spice and earth. Snappy acidity frames the large-scaled flavors. Not fat but dense." BH
