Details
CHATEAU DE LA MALTROYE

Jean-Pierre Cornut took over the domaine in 1992 from his father and has performed a complete change-over in the operations. The top grand cru wines receive 100 new oak, but only in line with Cornut's philosophy to judiciously match the wood to the wine. Perhaps it is the classical music Cornut blasts in his vineyards, but the wines are of incredible extraction and demand a closer look.

Bâtard-Montrachet--Vintage 1996
Côte de Beaune, Château de la Maltroye
In original carton
"Slightly less than half of the Batard-Montrachet's total production is presently located at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. This is heart-wrenching as Cornut has fashioned a fabulous, rich, sweet, white flower, and anise-scented beauty. Superb ripeness, lively minerals and lemons, as well as razor-sharp precision, depth, and complexity are found in its oily and powerful character. This Batard-Montrachet's admirable finish reveals wonderful purity and traces of sea shells, toasty oak, and candied almonds. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2007." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #115 (Feb 1998)
