Lot Essay

The letter which accompanies this lot states I first met The Yardbirds in January 1964, when they started to play a regular gig....at the Plaza in Guildford. I came to know [them] quite well, in particular Keith Relf, who gave the record to me. I understand that the [tracks] were recorded at the band's very first studio recording session, in February 1964, at R G Jones' studio in Morden. I believe the cover to have been drawn by Chris Dreja. 1p., signed and dated 8th March, 1993; a later inscription on the letter states that Dreja had been shown the drawing in October, 2003 and confirmed that it was in his hand.
