Lot Essay

The Bag One series of lithographs was conceived by John Lennon in 1969 as a wedding gift for Yoko, recording their wedding ceremony, honeymoon and bed-ins and includes several erotic images. The lithographs were first exhibited on 15th January, 1970 at the London Arts Gallery, New Bond Street, and caused a sensation; Scotland Yard closed the exhibition on only its second day, and the erotic lithographs were confiscated.
