Lot Essay

As the son of an architect, O'Neill specialised in architectural drawing, working as a drawing master in Oxford, Edinburgh and Bath from 1813 to 1821 and then in Bristol from 1821 to 1824.

Two of the present drawings are of St Mary's Chapel, Glastonbury Abbey, which is said to mark the site of Joseph of Arimathea's original church, the first to be purpose built above ground.
