Lot Essay

Keene occupied a studio above the Strand from 1845 to about 1857 which was known for its awkward access and disarray. This sketch is probably of one end of this studio. He moved to Clipstone Street well before 1860 and then to 55 Baker Street from 1862 to 1873.
