Lot Essay

Sir Cecil Beaton was a celebrated fashion and portrait photographer renowned for his images of elegance, glamour and style. He was also a gifted stage and costume designer, one of his most lauded achievements was the film musical Gigi (1958), for which he won his first Oscar.
