Lot Essay

The 16th November 1993 was a particularly important day for St Margaret's Chapel, Edinburgh. Built on the rock of Edinburgh Castle, the Chapel of St Margaret was named after Queen Margaret, the wife of King Malcolm III, who was the successor of Macbeth, after she found refuge in Scotland on exile from England. As the year commemorated the 900th anniversary of the death of St Margaret, the chapel had been specially renovated and refurbished; and as the date was remembered as St Margaret's Day, a Service of Dedication of the Enriched Chapel was conducted in the presence of H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, the Patron of St Margaret's Chapel Guild.
