A fine small scale model of the T.S.S. Awattea
circa 1970
built in a scale of 1:360, with the hull built up in wood, and painted with a red bottom, green and white topsides, a yellow waist stripe, painted portholes, windows and name at the bow and stern. The decks are painted a buff color and detailed anchors, anchor windlass, hawse pipes, bollards, ventilators, splash rail, cargo hatches, winches and booms, fore and aft masts with standing and running rigging, built up superstructure, bridge and bridge wings, ladders, funnels painted in the Union Steamship Company colors, lifeboats on davits, deck railings and other details. Displayed on a pair of turned brass pedestals on a mahogany base within a mahogany framed glass case.
