oval, 2 5/8 in. (67 mm.) high, rectangular ormolu frame with foliate border and fleur-de-lys spandrels, fitted red leather case, the cover stamped 'HALL PORTRAIT DE LA DUCHESSE DE GUICHE' and tooled gold border, made at the order of Félix Panhard by L. Houde at 82 rue Bonaparte, Paris

The celebrated collection of Mr Vincent, Paris, sold en bloc by his only son Prosper Vincent to Félix Panhard, on 2 April 1883, for 210,000 Gold Francs.

Lot Essay

The Duchesse de Guiche, née Aglaé de Polignac was the wife of Antoine VIII, future Duc de Gramont. She was frequently painted by Madame Vigée-LeBrun. A similar miniature was sold Sotheby's, London, 19 November 1984, lot 387 and a further example, by Hall, can be found mounted in a ring in the collection of the Louvre.
